Peer Mentor Program

A MENTOR is a person who listens to you, explores possibilities with you, helps you identify the real issue and problem solve to find solutions. A mentor is a person you can trust, someone who wants to understand your side of the story and make sense of the things that are hard for you. A mentor has been where you are and has found ways to deal with the challenges and wants to help others do that, too. A mentor is NOT someone who can fix things for you or do the hard work for you, but will support you as you move through the challenges and find ways that work for you.

Peer Mentors contribute to the Michigan Quality Community Care Council's (QC3) efforts to assist both Providers and Consumers:

  • Providers of Medicaid Home Help in delivering the best possible in-home support services to Consumers. Provider Peer Mentors are required to have experience in providing at least 6 Home Help Services to Consumers in both Activities of Daily Living and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living.

  • Consumers of Medicaid Home Help in hiring Providers and in their role as employers of Providers. Consumer Peer Mentors are required to have experience with hiring and supervising their own in-home service providers.

All QC3 Peer Mentors are carefully selected, screened, trained in providing direct services to their peers, and monitored in the work they do. They also receive ongoing training and support in their role as mentor.
